One of Nepal's most popular off-the-beaten trekking trails, the area was opened for trekkers in the mid-1990s. Least frequented, the Manaslu region lies close to the border of Tibet, and just as in the past, the locals still trade with Tibet. At the bottom of the pass, the Trek to Manaslu follows the old trade route to Larkya Bazaar and Phedi. This Trek leads through interesting traditional villages and farmland, taking you through various landscapes and ecosystems, from the low sub-tropics to the arctic. This Trek gives you a taste of all the diversity that Nepal has to offer. Due to its narrow rocky trail and several adventurous suspension bridges, it is also quite challenging if you are trekking for the first time in Nepal.
The adventure begins in the ancient Gurkha Kingdom in mid-western Nepal. It follows the Budigandaki River upstream from the sub-tropical forest to the dry Tibetan zone, offering outstanding views of Mt. Manaslu (8,156 m.), the eighth-highest peak in the world with a panorama of the surrounding magnificent mountains that straddle the border with Tibet.
One of the highlights of the trip is Tsum Valley. The close community was very guarded about their culture, and no outsiders were allowed to enter the valley. Now, with the community being more welcoming towards the tourists, it has been one of the main attractions of the trek. Learning about their culture and exploring their lifestyle gives you an insight into the diversified cultural aspect of Nepal.
To extend the trip, we can take the southern route that joins with the Annapurna region after returning from Mu Gompa, which opens a whole new experience for the trekkers. The route will lead towards the Larkya La Pass, which has some of the best panoramic views of the Annapurna mountain regions. If we extend our hike towards the route, we will end our trek in the picturesque valley of Pokhara.
