More About Rajendra Bajgain

Unlike other tour operators in Nepal, he is able to bring highly influential clients to the country. He has organised tours for the following high profile clients:
  • HRH Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Abdulaziz Al Saud of the UAE (Nepal and Bhutan).
  • Fatima School of Girls and Rasheed School of Girls,Dubai.
  • Mr. Justlin Coleman, Advisor to the US former president, Mr. Clinton.
  • Mr. Jack Dayson, Mr. Darrel Hartman, and Mr. Carl Duncan, travel writers.

Rajendra Bajgain, Founder, Chairman, and Managing Director of Gurkha Encounters was born in a remote village of Gorkha District in 1973. After completing his secondary education he came to Kathmandu to pursue higher education. Due to financial problems he started workin a tour agency to support his education. Thus, he developed a high interest in tourism from an early age, and his hard work and long experience helped him to establish his own tour agency, Gurkha Encounters, in 1998. He has been serving as a tour operator through Gurkha Encounters ever since.

He also worked with Mr. Klaus Ohlmann, the 36th world record holder German glider pilot and the first ever to glide over Mt. Everest, to facilitate this amazing accomplishment in February 2014. Similarly, he also worked as a Local Fixer for the UK based ‘Blast Films’ adventure filming project “Flying to the Ends of the Earth – S01E01 - The Himalayas”, a TV series which was broadcast on Channel 4.

Rajendra is conscious about the factors that affect tourism, such as global warming and existing rules and regulation of the Nepal Government. In fact, he was the team leader and organiser of the Nepal Government’s Cabinet Meeting on Kalapathar (viewpoint over Mt. Everest) in 2009 to drag the world’s attention to the impact of climate change on the Himalayas. He was also organiser of “Summiteers’ Summit to Save the Himalayas”, a campaign against carbon production.

Always conscious about the plight and safety of others, Rajendra was the one who invented the Trekker’s Information Management System (TIMS) while on the Executive Board of the Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal (TAAN).One of the results of this, is that now poor porters get free helicopter rescue (if required) and warm clothes.

Rajendra himself loves travelling. He has carried out many reconnaissancetreks and research tours to the Everest Region, Annapurna Region, Langtang Region, Dolpo Region, and many others, obtaining actual information about location and trekking routes. Similarly, he has also travelled to many countries such as USA, UK, Canada, Germany, France, Switzerland, Italy, Denmark, Norway, Finland, The Netherlands, Japan, China, Hong Kong, Macao, Qatar, Kuwait, UAE, Thailand, Bangladesh, India, Bhutan, and Bulgaria to promote Nepalese tourism.
